Case Report – Loki
1. Abstract
This case report examines the use of a WIMBA Carpus Orthosis Pro for a senior, 12-years-old dog named Loki, who suffers from carpal hyperextension in both front paws. The study will cover the patient’s data, examination findings, the clinical hypothesis, the WIMBA solution, the rehabilitation plan, and the outcome of using the orthosis.

3. Examination Findings
Loki’s front paws were severely affected by carpal hyperextension, with the carpal almost flat on the floor.
4. Clinical Hypothesis
The clinical hypothesis is that the WIMBA Carpus Orthosis Pro, combined with hydrotherapy and pain management, will provide extra support, improve Loki’s gait, and reduce lameness.

After the first donning, Loki’s front paws appeared straighter, and his carpals were not as flat on the floor. The orthosis seemed to offer a significant amount of support, although Loki initially appeared clumsy. There was a slight issue with the tabs loosening, possibly due to the provider’s carpal tunnel. Loki reacted to the fitting with slight anxiety, possibly exacerbated by a three-hour car journey.
Loki showed signs of improvement and was starting to wear the boots again, although reluctantly. He would attempt to move around, especially if motivated by food.
Loki experienced a period of serious illness, including a loss of power in his back legs, weight loss due to medication, and pain.
We are deeply sorry to report that Loki has passed away due to cancer.

Although Loki’s case was ultimately impacted by a serious illness and his passing due to cancer, initial outcomes after the first fitting showed straighter front paws and significant support from the orthosis. The rehabilitation plan included regular pain management and hydrotherapy, alongside gradually increasing the duration of orthotic use. Despite some challenges, such as slight anxiety during fittings and issues with loosening tabs, Loki’s early progress suggested that the WIMBA orthosis could have been a valuable tool in managing his condition

Even though he looks clumsy they did seem to offer a fantastic amount of support. We were all quite surprised with the results. He made a very good attempt at walking right away.
