What can be included in the clinic’s final quote?
The contents of a final quote vary by clinic. Depending on the case and provider, it may include veterinary assessment, photographs and manual measurements or WimbaSCAN, the ordered orthosis, fitting, owner instruction, follow-up visits and authorised adjustments. WIMBA does not set the clinic’s professional fees, so pet parents should ask for a clear breakdown before ordering.
Does pet insurance cover a custom orthotic brace?
Coverage cannot be assumed. Some policies may reimburse a veterinarian-prescribed orthosis, while others exclude it or apply limits, deductibles, waiting periods or pre-existing-condition rules. Before the device is ordered, contact the insurer with the diagnosis, proposed device and clinic estimate and ask for written confirmation of coverage and the required claim documents.
Why does a custom orthosis cost more than a simple neoprene sleeve?
The products are not equivalent. A custom WIMBA orthosis uses patient-specific photographs and measurements or WimbaSCAN data, depending on the pathway, followed by digital design and 3D printing. A standard-size sleeve is selected from fixed dimensions and generally does not provide the same patient-specific geometry or configurable joint control. Suitability and clinical outcome still depend on diagnosis, fit, patient tolerance and follow-up.
