Jet WIMBA Carpus Orthosis 1

Case Presentation

Meet Jet, a spirited 3-year-old Siberian Husky/Malamute mix living with bilateral carpal hyperextension. Weighing 33 kg, Jet needed extra support to stay active and pain-free. With the help of reinforced WIMBA Token Therapy, his personalized WIMBA Therapy plan provides the stability his front limbs need — without compromising his love for movement.

  • Name: Jet
  • Age: 3 years
  • Sex: Male
  • Weight:  33 kg
  • Medical  Condition: Bilateral  Carpal Hyperextension
  • WIMBA Token Therapy: Reinforced  WimbaTOKEN Beige up to 195°

Medical Examination

Jet faced multiple health challenges, including an autoimmune disorder called uveodermatologic syndrome. The long-term steroid therapy used to control the disease is a possible factor that may have contributed to Jet developing increased ligament laxity, manifesting as bilateral carpal hyperextension. Despite his flexibility, Jet experienced generalized weakness, inactivity, pain, and visual deficits. Jet’s activity was significantly restricted — limited to short walks for bathroom breaks, always on a lead.

Veterinarian’s Goals

The primary aim was to enhance Jet’s comfort and prevent further damage or compensatory pain caused by his condition. Additionally,  the veterinarian aimed to improve Jet’s overall quality of life by addressing specific mobility challenges associated with bilateral carpal hyperextension.

Pet Parent’s Expectations

Jet’s owner aspired to witness Jet engaging in more comfortable short walks and gaining the ability to navigate stairs effortlessly. The goal was to provide Jet with a higher quality of life, where he could enjoy physical activities without the limitations imposed by his health conditions. The owner envisioned a happier, more active life for Jet, free from the constraints that once hindered his mobility.

“At Canine Rehabilitation & Conditioning  Group, we are excited to share Jet’s journey to better functional mobility and improved quality of life, made possible by WIMBA braces. The individualized, tailored orthotics provided by WIMBA matches perfectly with our patient-centred approach with each of the dogs we care for at CRCG.   We are excited to continue to work with WIMBA braces to maximize conservative and post-operative outcomes in our practice.”

The WIMBA Orthosis Impact

The introduction of the WIMBA Carpus Orthosis marked a turning point in Jet’s life. After careful consideration of his case, two three-striped carpal orthoses were made. Their palmar straps are of a widened variety, to further ensure stability and comfort. This innovative solution not only addressed his specific needs but also contributed to restoring his mobility. Now, Jet can enjoy walks more comfortably,  navigate stairs with newfound ease,  and actively engage in a broader range of activities.

Upon the therapist’s recommendation at CRCG, Dr. Emily’s expertise guided the selection of tokens within WimbaTHERAPY,  opting for a token angle of 195°. These interchangeable components play a pivotal role in modulating the orthosis mobility, allowing for a tailored approach to meet  Jet’s specific needs. Additionally, to accommodate Jet’s weight and strength, a reinforced, particularly sturdy variety of tokens was chosen. These strategic decisions became a crucial element in fine-tuning the WIMBA orthosis,  ensuring a customized solution aligned with  Jet’s individual requirements.

Jet’s success story showcases the transformative power of tailored orthotic solutions. His improved mobility is not just a success;  it’s an inspiration for pets facing similar challenges. The tailored orthotic solution provided by WIMBA not only met the veterinarian’s goals but exceeded the pet owner’s aspirations, fostering a renewed sense of joy and freedom for Jet.

WIMBA orthotics should be used according to the veterinarian’s medical recommendations; WIMBA is not responsible for misuse or activities beyond veterinary advice.
