Case Presentation

Meet Bono, a 6.5-year-old Golden Retriever diagnosed with a proliferative lesion in the ankle joint area. Despite the challenges, Bono is staying more active and supported thanks to his custom orthotic solution designed to bring comfort and stability to his daily life.

  • Name: Bono
  • Age: 6,5 years
  • Sex: Male
  • Weight: 36 kg
  • Diagnosis: Proliferative lesion in the ankle joint area.

Medical Examination

In August 2022, the patient sustained an injury from an accident that was not promptly diagnosed. In October of the same year, Bono was first examined by a veterinarian, who diagnosed a lesion in the ankle joint.

After ongoing treatment and no improvement, the patient was referred to another facility, where a more thorough diagnosis revealed a benign proliferative lesion. Despite attempts with antibiotics and steroids, unfortunately, these did not produce satisfactory results. In February 2023, an ankle orthosis with physiological angle restriction was applied.

Therapy and Results

The patient is under the continuous care of the attending physician. Currently, the condition of the dog’s joint is stable, and the lesion is not growing. The patient is receiving low-dose steroids and uses an ankle orthosis for support during walks.

Bono has regained 80% of his mobility with the use of steroids and orthosis. The WIMBA Tarsus Orthosis helps alleviate stress on the degenerated joint during walks. Thanks to the implemented therapy, Bono has been given a second chance, as limb amputation was averted.

WIMBA orthotics should be used according to the veterinarian’s medical recommendations; WIMBA is not responsible for misuse or activities beyond veterinary advice.
